Position Overview:

This field based CTO role is a high impact position with responsibilities including supporting strategic sales opportunities with account teams, closely following industry trends and direction to shape engineering and product priorities, and regularly evangelizing Isilon solutions and roadmaps as one of our thought leading technical experts with customers, at industry conferences, tradeshows, and with industry press and analysts. It is a unique role for the well rounded engineer at heart who has a NAS storage background, possesses industry or vertical knowledge in Analytics, Life Sciences, Financial Services, or HPC, and a passion for evangelizing. Our high performing Field CTO team is comprised of Engineers and Technologists who take tremendous pride in maintaining technical depth and breadth in their areas of expertise and in playing a highly influential role with both customers and our internal product and solution teams.

As our market landscapes evolve, our Field CTO’s advocate tactical features and strategic directions in collaboration with Product Management and Engineering. Influencing and jointly designing the developed tactical features and strategic directions will be the final outcome of this effort. Success is defined as the ability to influence and advance the product portfolio to meet the market demand.

The role requires dynamic and engaging communications skills; verbal, written and visual. The person must be able to engage a varied audience, from C-level to managerial, and extract information that can be used by the sales team in future engagements. While based in the theatre, frequent travel to all areas within the theatre and occasional travel outside of the theatre (i.e. international) is required.

Desired Skills:

  • Engineering / CS / MIS Degree (Bachelor’s minimum; graduate work preferred)

  • Possession of a strong storage background (preferably NAS) as an end user or in technical vendor role strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in 1 or more of the following industries: Financial Services, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Analytics, HPC

  • Desire and ability to develop subject matter expertise in 1 or more of the following industries: Financial Services, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Analytics, HPC

  • Experience distilling current industry trends and creating strategic and tactical direction required.

  • Experience in a client-facing role explaining strategic and tactical concepts to customers required.

  • Experience in all facets of the product development lifecycle preferred.

  • Able to adeptly have a conversation with executives and then switching to a very technical conversation around product implementations and features.

  • Understanding with design concepts for scale-out and distributing computing architectures preferred

  • Ability to act as an industry and solution thought leader in both customer and large industry conference settings

  • Experience with cross-team/matrixed organizations influencing multiple stakeholders preferred

  • Ability to travel up to 40% domestically
