Position Summary:

The Director will lead the Architecture Team that will Define business capability models, reference architectures, business/technology roadmaps, and associated artifacts. Cross organizational architecture leadership is required and a part of daily responsibilities. Lead collaborative architectural governance processes to align solution development with defined architectures. Work with VSAM Enterprise Architecture Team to establish Dell/EMC organization-level architectural to set architecture direction and guide technology investments. Review, refine and extend the architecture engagement model and implement a communications plan to keep the organization informed of architecture standards and strategies. Collaborate with VSAM team to drive and or support key strategic initiatives across the organization Conduct proof of concept projects and evaluate fit for purpose of new tools and technologies

As a part of Dell/EMC's Software Engineering team you will be responsible for working collaboratively with a variety of people across Sales, Engineering, QA, Manufacturing, Partners and Global Services to enable the development of Software M&O capabilities enabling Dell/EMC's leading edge converged and hyperconverged platforms. You must be comfortable thriving in a heavily matrixed organization and delivery model where delivery resources reside in a different Business Unit.

As Director of Architecture, you will drive the architecture function and spearhead long term strategy, technical planning, and architecture for current and future development projects. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing architecture and engineering talent and have an executive view of the engineering and QE teams to ensure that development efforts support our strategic initiatives for our customers and timelines. Through planning and tracking you will guide day to day tasks as needed to meet engineering deadlines, weekly commitments, and deployment of multiple projects into our market facing flagship product. In our get “stuff” done culture, you must be willing to be as hands on as necessary when needed to ensure results. You will work with Product Management to prioritize architecture and engineering tasks. The ideal candidate should be able to lead, resolve conflicts which come up when managing competing priorities and be able to roll up their sleeves and take a player/coach approach to drive deliverables when necessary to instill confidence and set an example in the architecture team.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • 10+ years of experience as a Software Architect

  • Recognized as a leader of Software Architecture such as a Advisory, Consultant or Distinguished Contributor, or Director of Architecture.

  • Experience in an environment embracing Agile methodologies-

  • Master level expertise of well documented patterns, and Spring Frameworks

  • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc

  • Embrace the basic fundamentals of iterative development

  • Understand the value of commitments to delivery made by an engineering team

  • Understand incremental delivery and the value of metrics

Fluent in user story creation, backlog tracking, burndown metrics, facilitating retrospectives, handling defects, velocity, and task definition
