EMC Senior Software Engineer, Test Automation in Austin, Texas

Job Description:

Senior Software Engineer in Test

Our collaborative and iterative development approach has us testing all the time to avoid the last minute crunch. In order to do this we use lots of tools and test data to ensure that we can efficiently do functional, regression, and integration testing as part of the daily development process. The full team is involved in testing, but we need a mastermind to coordinate this effort for each engineering project that is running, playing a material development role on each project.

This is a core engineering position where you will write production code. You are also responsible for ensuring that each feature can be built, tested, and deployed (along with our DevOps team) in a reliable and repeatable manner.

Automation is a key part of this effort, but we also know that we need to be smart about what we test, when we test, and how we test. Very often the best results come from a well-informed user doing something ‘clever’ with our app. We are looking for engineers that share these ideals and can help us take our test and development technology to the next level.

Skills that we look for in this role include:

  • Ability to code in in a variety of languages such as JavaScript, Java, or Ruby.

  • Solid understanding of web applications and how to test the different layers (JavaScript, JSON, Servlet, DB).

  • History of developing and testing RESTful interfaces.

  • Very strong opinions about and real-world experience with test cases and the tools to manage them.

  • Knowledge of server-side testing frameworks and how to build stable, resilient tests that actually test at the appropriate level (unit versus system). Examples include mocha and cucumber.

  • As a plus, experience with the world of UI automation using tools such as Selenium, Watir, Sahi,
